NAMOC - National Art Museum of China (Beijing)

KONTEJNER and NAMOC (The National Art Museum of China, Beijing) are presenting two Croatian artists, Silvio Vujičić and Margareta Lekić, at the third triennial of new media art Thingworld in Bejing.

Silvio Vujičić, who is exploring transitory and transformative nature of the matter in his laboratory of wonder, will be presenting the installation Furnace for the Sublimination of Spirits, Bodies, Vessels in which Bodies are Dissolved which is the result of experimenting with the hazardous dose of crystalline xanthine alkaloid, better known as caffeine. Young artist Margareta Lekić got her inspiration for Under the Hammer from mythological perspective of life, energy, gravity and indestructibleness.

Trienniale is following current trends in new media art and culture providing a platform for their global presentation and theorization. The 2014 edition organized in collaboration with renown institutes, universities and organizations such as V2_Institute for the Unstable Media (NL), Le Groupe Molior (CA), MAAP, Media Art Asia Pacific (AU), Goethe Institut China (CN), Kontejner (HR), Transmediale (DE), Zero1, The Art and Technology Network (US), Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University (CN), TASML | Tsinghua University Art and Science Research Center Media Lab (CN), FACT | The Foundation for Art and Creative Technology (UK) presents 58 works by 65 artists and artistic collectives from 22 countries.

Margareta Lekić (HR)

Margareta Lekić (b. 1982) graduated in 2007, and in 2020 earned her doctoral degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, Department of Sculpting. She has been the recipient of the City of Osijek scholarship, CEEPUS scholarship (Balaton, Hungary; Indiana University of Pennsylvania, USA), KulturKontakt Austria scholarship (International Summer Academy of Fine Arts in Salzburg, Austria) and the postgraduate scholarship of the City of Zagreb. In 2010, she participated at the CEC ArtsLink artistic residence (Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, MA, USA) and in 2013 attended an artistic residence at Cité internationale des arts in Paris, France. As part of the Erasmus+ programme, in 2018 she spent time at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid, Spain. She has exhibited at 25 solo and 57 group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad (Sweden, Germany, USA, Italy, China, Japan, the Netherlands, the UK, Canada, Serbia, Hungary and Poland).

Silvio Vujičić (HR)

Silvio Vujičić (1978, Zagreb) is a visual artist and fashion designer whose work engages with themes such as clothing fetishes, sexual identity, painting pigments, gardens, poisonous and psychoactive substances, death and transience. He works across the media of printmaking, sculpture, installation and performance, marked by processes of material transformation through emergence and disappearance. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Textile Technology in Zagreb. Since 2002 he has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad (Austria, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Serbia, China, Japan, USA), including the International Triennial of New Media Art, Beijing (2011, 2014); Digiark, National Museum of Fine Arts, Taiwan (2014); FRAC des Pays de la Loire, Carquefou (2012); Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb (2005, 2009, 2012); Platform3 – Spaces for Contemporary Art, Munich (2010); Device_art, Zagreb – San Francisco – Tokyo (2004, 2006, 2010). His works are included in museum and private collections in Croatia and internationally: Lauba and MSU in Zagreb, Albertina in Vienna, and FRAC des Pays de la Loire in Carquefou. He is the recipient of the 8th Croatian Triennial of Graphics Award (2019) and the 40th Youth Salon Award in Zagreb (2006).
