Janez Jansa is a conceptual artist, performer and producer of Italian descent who has lived and worked in Ljubljana since 1995. His artistic operations have strong social connotations and are characterised by intermedia access. He is an author of many video pieces, performances, installations, documentaries and media projects: I Need Money to Be an Artist (1996.), Brainscore (2000.), Problemarket.com (2001.), machinaZOIS (2003.) DemoKino – Virtual Biopolitical Agora (2003.-06.), Brainloop (2006) and RE:akt! (2006.-).
Since 2002, he has worked as an artistic director of Aksioma – Institute of Contemporary Art, Ljubljana (www.aksioma.org). It is a non-profit organisation which works with the production, presentation and distribution of projects dealing with new technologies which address the structure of contemporary society. Janez co-operates internationally with several artists, museums, foundations, institutions and festivals. As a guest artist, he gives lectures and holds workshops at universities and institutes of contemporary art.
