As part of the European project Future DiverCities, and in collaboration with the Swedish organization Subtopia, comic artist and illustrator Yana Knight participated in a three-day residency at KONTEJNER from April 28 to 30, 2025.
In addition to working on her own artistic-research project in the form of a comic, Knight led a comic workshop for students from the School of Applied Arts and Design in Zagreb. Through the medium of drawing, participants explored visual storytelling techniques centered around their daily lives.
In the second part of the workshop, they focused on investigating the spatial context of KONTEJNER itself. During Knight’s stay in Zagreb, she also created a comic reflecting her experience of the residency.

Yana Knight (UK/SE)
Yana Knight is an artist, a moose on the loose, and as you might have seen if you've taken this ride, she makes comics, cartoons, zines, graphic novels, paintings and her own imaginary friends and countries...And help others do the same.
Her work is inspired by the extraordinary experience of being alive and living a life in a playful, surreal and sometimes absurd way. It's highly influenced by her colorful life, having been through many adventures, journeys and transitions and comes about through experimentation, humor, personal storytelling and performance.
Her artistic practice has evolved over the years and has now taken her to Stockholm, Sweden, where she is playing with creative technologies at Stockholm University to see where they can take her practice, her imagination, and her stories.

Subtopia (SE)
Subtopia is a production centre for culture, cultural, creative and social industries. Located in the south of Stockholm county, in Botkyrka municipality, Subtopia is a facilitator of dreams and culture.
