In the "SKIN(S)CARE" project, artist Silvio Vujičić explores the boundary between care and violence, using his own cosmetic line as a critical tool.
In contemporary society, skincare has become a symbol of self-discipline, status, and identity construction, shaped by the influence of media, influencers, and the market. Through his own line of products—whose name symbolically merges “skin care” with “scars” and “scare”—Vujičić reveals the ambivalence of the beauty construct, highlighting its social and economic conditioning. His “natural” products, made from toxic ivy, mango, fig, or wild carrot, provoke irritation and rashes, challenging the idealization of the natural. Cosmetics thus become a medium of resistance and personal expression. The project raises the question: can deliberate skin damage become a form of personal style, just like tattoos or other forms of body modification?
Vujičić deconstructs normative ideas of health, beauty, and ugliness, showing that these are fluid, culturally determined concepts. His work offers no comfort—it provokes and destabilizes, urging us to reconsider both personal and societal beliefs. "SKIN(S)CARE" transforms everyday routines into a critical platform, where care is no longer just about tending to the body, but becomes a space of resistance, art, and identity redefinition.
