How does a language sound like, beyond the words' meaning?
How much does the sound of a language influence us?
How does the sound of a language resonate with us?

These are the guiding questions of "LOGOS MATER", a live audio-visual performance by the German audiovisual artist Amelie Duchow, which explores the sound of languages as a universal connector. Duchow invites people from all over the world to participate in this project providing a webpage in which every person can record his own voice leaving it to the artist's sound analysis and the resulting creative process of manipulation and alteration (www.extrasync.net/logosmater/index.html). Every sound used in the audio composition derives from the vocal contributions; the live composition does not communicate through words but through the sound of language itself. The artist creates a global language of resonance, an immersive sonic space that seeks to connect us beyond cultural and geographical boundaries.

The performance invites the audience to reflect on the significance of languages in shaping our individual and collective identities and on the fact that humanity today is facing a massive extinction: languages are disappearing at an unprecedented pace as over 40% of the world’s approximate 7.000 languages are at risk of disappearing. The webpage remains active throughout the project's presentations and every live performance of "LOGOS MATER" will incorporate the latest voice contributions.

The composition of "LOGOS MATER" is among the winners of the open call initiated by raster – media for soundtrack Europe 2025.
