Philippe Franck (BE)

Art historian, curator, art critic, producer, sound and intermedia artist, Philippe Franck is the founder and director of Transcultures, Centre for Digital and Sound Cultures (Mons, Belgium). He is the founder and artistic director of the international festival of sound arts City Sonic (since 2003) and the biennial of digital cultures Transnumériques (since 2005). He has curated many other events and shows of contemporary, audio, hybrid and digital arts in Europe and internationally. He is the coordinator of the European Pépinières for Young Artists programme for the Federation Wallonia-Brussels. Since 2010, he has also been in charge of urban music, sound arts and interdisciplinary projects at the le manège.mons cultural centre. He teaches digital arts and media/multimedia studies at the Saint-Luc Art School (Brussels) and La Cambre National High School of Visual Arts. He has produced or participated in several records (on Sub Rosa, Optical Sound, Transonic... and other indie labels) and directed many collective publications on contemporary music, living arts, digital arts and sound art (at La Lettre volée and other publishers). In 2014, he directed a documentary film, Bernard Heidsieck, la poésie en action (with Anne-Laure Chamboissier and in collaboration with Gilles Coudert).
