Jelena Radić (RS) Needlepoint

cross-stiched embroidery, 2002

Embroidering is – essentially – very boring. You have to transfer a paper scheme onto a canvas. Small squares are marked on a picture, whila key points out number of a thread to be used. Then you pick up threads, count squares and embroider… And infinitely so. You embroider one row after another, having no relation with what you do or what you have already done. You cannot get carried away by or get lost in it. Needle is an extremely 'cold' media and bears no trace of energy spent. Some of the mentioned issues are considered as points of reprimand to pornography, too.
