People taking part in the project are persons of what is called the third age of life, and younger people interested in the topic of age. The object of the workshop is to achieve gradual awareness, through guided group work and music, of the social problem of persons of the third age of life and to prepare and empower their voice – a powerful weapon in occupying public space and opening up public discussion on the topic of old age and its position in society. The fact is that elderly people are an increasingly large part of Croatian society, as well as one of its most marginalised sections, whose voice, compared even with the voices of other minorities, is one of the quietest on the social and political scene. The collectiveness of the group is not just a numerical but also a psychological factor in the process of speaking out with their own voice, of taking up a position and at the end of getting out into public space, of interaction and participation in social and political life.
The manner of work during the workshops includes a blend of singing and writing songs of complaints created on the basis of complaints that have been collected. This combination of music and consideration of their own social position as well as speaking out loudly about the aspects of their own quotidian should result in the first Croatian complaints choir of the third age of life. Apart from working in the direction of empowerment, the workshops are also a lot of fun, which can be confirmed by all three workshop leaders who adore singing in untypical choirs.
Workshop is moderated by Tajana Josimović, Tea Juretić and Marta Kolega.
