[A presentation of Food Hacking and Unicorn Precinct XIII.]
Cooking and hacking are one and the same – using open source recipedevelopment to reverse engineer secret restaurant techniques, the hackerchefs at Food Hacking have been bringing molecular gastronomy food technology to the masses for 5 years.
What technology, you might ask? We've demonstrated home centrifuges, location-enabled food, and semantic engine food genomes that learn your tastes and help you discover where your diet is heading. But mostly we justwant to cook with you!!
Collaborative cooking is the game, and we believe that cooking together isthe expression of a communal aesthetic. Our collaborative food hacking dinner parties have toured the world to encourage all people, regardlessof technical skill, to express themselves via food. And what can be expressed by food?
Eating in the fanciest restaurant, you can find you are still eating food made under the stress of conscripted labor. Eating plastic-wrapped packaged and processed food tastes like the hatred and weariness poured into the food by the factory worker who made it.
But eating your mother's home cooking over the holidays, surrounded by family, is eating pure love. And cooking with your friends? Why, that's an even freakier love, shared and remembered for years to come.
How freaky are we willing to go, and how delicious will it be?
Our nightly dinner installations, in collaboration with Touch Me Festival volunteer cooks, will challenge diners' expectations with surrealist food tricks that teach us more about the sensual pleasures of hacking our own palates. Accompanied by demonstrations of repurposed industrial food technology, we will fuel Touch Me with affordable healthy meals and snacks that will bring us together as food has always brought us together, in these end times of scarce food and collapsing capitalism.
Won't you dine with us?
