Our Beautiful HomelandMilijana Babić (HR)

readymade series, data about theft; 2010

This readymade series consists of foods and products symbolizing bare existence, previously stolen in supermarkets. The exhibits are supported by basic information about the theft of individual items: date, time, trading chain, address, and the unexpected theft of one of the products (artefacts) from a museum in which the work was exhibited.

The title of the work, which takes the name of the Croatian national anthem, ironically points to the betrayed expectations of our new state, and to growing problems of corruption and poverty. By being based the commission of felonies, the work questions ideas of morality, false morality and the loss of morality, in the context of Croatian reality.
