Artguns – Criminal AestheticsStahl Stenslie (NO)

art as armament: performative sculpture and live 3D-printing of functional weapons, 2016

The Artguns project is criminal and wicked from the bottom up. It is against the law to make these guns. It is even more unlawful to use them. It is outrageously bad to use them on human targets. Or in the name of art. Then again, they look good. Criminally good. Who would not like them for a steal? Like any crime, these guns come at a cost. Independent of which end of the gun you are standing. The project is showing live, performative printing of functional guns, produced real-time in the exhibition by 3D printers. Visitors can arm themselves by downloading the free 3D models for personal home printing. Any cheap, off-the-shelf 3D printer can be used. Three unique models will be custom designed for the exhibition: I) The Croatian Special 38, II) The Belgrade Banja Luka Ballistic 32 and III) The Skopje Illegal 22. All designs have prestigious looks derived from the most precious national symbols. The artguns are open source and can be freely downloaded from www.artgun.me.

Note: private production of guns is illegal. By downloading, 3D printing and mounting any of the Artweapons, the participant will be liable to proceedings under the firearms laws of the country where the printing takes place.
