Marko Batista (1976) is a Ljubljana based tech-mixed-media artist, sound researcher, video experimentalist and AV performer, born in in Tito’s Yugoslavia. Batista focuses on themes such as displaced soundscapes, video transformation processes, networking data, collaboration, linking concepts, hybrid spaces, politics of art and other fields of contemporary media art. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana and attained a Master of Fine Arts degree from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. Batista is a founding member of the experimental multimedia group Klon:Art:Resistance.
Nowadays he works mainly independently, although he is involved in collaboration with various artists and experts on specific projects. His works have been regularly shown in Slovenia (Aksioma, Kapelica Gallery, Ljubljana; Kibla, Maribor; MMC Pina, Koper…) and presented worldwide as part of the 50th Venice Biennial, 2003; 10th International Istanbul Biennial, 2007; Featured Art Scene/Kapelica Gallery at Ars Electronica Festival, Linz, 2008; Cellsbutton#3 – International Media Art Festival, Indonesia, 2008; Zero Gallery/Transmediale, Berlin, 2009; Share Festival, Torino, 2010; Netaudio Festival, London, 2011; Mochvara Gallery@Pogon Jedinstvo, Zagreb, 2012.
